Photography and styling for artists and musicians
South African singer- and musician Refentse Morake is no stranger to the Loci Photography studio, as he has done many various shoots with me before. Recently he contacted me about a project he is doing together with Schalk Bezuidenhout, one of the most recognizable faces in South Africa currently, from advertisements for WeBuyCars to Afrikaans films such as Kanarie.
They are hosting a comedic/music show with both of their talents combined called “Swart en Wit” (Black and White), at the Atterbury Theatre in Lynnwood Manor, Pretoria, in June.
Schalk is no stranger to comedy, and has been an influence of humor to the South African people for quite a few years already. Refentse has a velvety deep voice he has been seducing the South African audiences with for years, and with their unique combination of talents it is sure to be an interesting show.
The two men were keen to try some of the block jackets that form part of the studio’s in-house clothing and accessory range called The Nicolassi Brand. Nicolassi is a love-child born from the idea that clients would certainly want that extra bit of help with styling and accessorizing when they visit the studio, mostly for a stunning boudoir shoot, which is what the studio niche’s in. But Refentse and Schalk wanted something strong to embody the Black and White theme they would be going for and working with for their show, so I suggested my white and black short block jackets, as they have strong shoulders and changes the upper torso shape, and they were happy to try it – they ended up using it as the banner image for their show.
Loci Photography has been doing boudoir for quite some time already, specializing in the artistic representation of the female form, so this was something different with two men, two different personalities to portray, and using some of my signature handmade pieces.
