Matric Dance Images on the East Rand
Nobody hopes for rain on the day of their matric dance event, but when it has rained, and it opens up to stunning dramatic skies, we’ll take it. The 2022 matric dance season was quite hectic, it saw the return of matric dance events in full force, and many times, I had to fit in three a day.
There usually is a popular day for all of them, it’s usually the end of September or the beginning of October, and then many parents want to book you – I had to fit and space time with some minutes to spare between shoots.
This lovely young lady had on an electric blue dress, something that made for visually striking and strong images. We used the Ebotse Estate as a venue, and some lovely dramatic skies made for a great backdrop against her bright dress.
Matric dances changes in the past few years, when I was matric it was nowhere near such a big deal as it is now, nut it had now provided photographers a whole new income source, as the need to capture a special event like that has grown and we can get creative and use the environment, the excitement, the emotion – all to our advantage.
Throughout my career I have been able to capture matric dances all over Gauteng, from Pretoria, to JHB, to the East Rand, all of them look and feel different, and it’s all about taking the bundled up excitement and translating that into a product your clients will admire. Matric Dance images on the East Rand is usually a favourite of mine, they are lovely un-pretentious clients and I always have fun with the East Rand people.
A matric dance is usually a great milestone for any young student, the end of their high school career is something to celebrate, and for parents this shoot is special and signifies something iconically sentimental, the end of a certain era. The matric dance shoot season is one I always look forward to every year, it keeps me hectically busy but it makes me connect with a whole new group of people.
