The time for matric dance events and matric dance images, is always, always exciting. Young people, having had gone through a whole school career to get to a point before exams, for one evening, of dancing, dinner, and dressing up smartly. This is also one of my most favorite things to shoot, as I love the excitement, and it’s always nice to see how the young people’s style came through in their choice of dress, or suit for the evening.
From what colour the dress is, to what type of styling goes with it – either hair up or down, or slick, or straight or curly, to whether it’s a lovely ballgown rather than a slimmer elegant fitted dress, they got to choose, and I always make sure to give attention to the detail when I photograph these events, as you would want to remember the special elements of it when you decided on the look of it.
It’s very special and epic in a matric pupil’s life, and a professional photo shoot capturing that exciting moments before a great event, is wonderful to be a part of, and to be able to provide clients with a fond product.
It’s a recipe for success, as it’s already a beautiful young person, dressed smart, and filled with promise and what’s to come, wanting their image to be a great one, for this time in their life.
The partner is usually part of the shoot, and that has a giggling, excitement-filled moment, knowing that it’s almost over, something bittersweet to think about.
