Five things to be aware of when choosing to do a boudoir shoot

The boudoir shoot can be a daunting and tentative, yet somewhat exciting prospect to look forward to once you’ve booked with a photographer, but the process needn’t have to be like pulling teeth.

As a pro-photographer that have photographed boudoir shoots for over ten years, here are five things to be aware of when choosing to go ahead with a boudoir shoot that might help to set your mind at ease and to give you some valuable information about the process, making you a bit more prepared.

  • You should immediately feel comfortable from the start when chatting with your potential boudoir photographer. They should have contacted you back soon after you have inquired, and should have explained to you very well and thoroughly the process of their way of shooting.
  • Women are diverse and there are as many body shapes as there are women, so most boudoir studios don’t keep lingerie and other boudoir sets as a standard, it is required that you bring your own, in sizes and styles that fit you, and suit you best. The Loci Photography studio has various other styling items in its Nicolassi Brand range that would suit any colors brought along to help elevate the chic styling of your end-product, but these are still considered as “over-garments’ ‘, you bring your own undergarments.
  • Most people do experience a degree of shyness, tentativeness, nervousness, anxiety, insecurity or unsureness about appearing in their underwear essentially in front of a stranger, so hence again why point one is important, so that you know from the get-go, your photographer will help and guide you and make you as comfortable as humanly possible for a great relaxed end-product. So knowing that you’ll appear vulnerable and exposed in front of someone could be a frightening thought, but also knowing this person has a special job to help and guide, should have you rest assured that they will be professionally gentle.
  • Be open about your own limits and expectations. Even though a skilled photographer have done this for years and with hundreds of different women and should have a keen feeling about someone’s shyness or assertiveness, no one can read minds – and it helps to voice a concern, insecurity or something as simple as perhaps the lip color should be changed that the makeup artist applied. Saying it out loud helps us know where your head is at, what you like, and what you’re willing and want to show. Many women have a hard boundary against showing anything private or nude, and others want full glam makeup done to the extreme. But saying that to us as service providers, gives us way more of an understanding of who you are, and what your preferences and expectations are.
  • YES, Photoshop can assist a huge amount, NO, it can’t take everything away. Photoshop is a revolutionary software that has only expanded in its capacity since its release, and what many artists, designers and photographers can now create on it is mind-blowing. In the boudoir scope we can use it as a great tool to help soften skin whether it be on face cheeks or booty cheeks, but it still cannot take every flaw away, and many times trying or attempting to do so, looks severely unnatural. Pixels get stretched and skin starts having no more definition. A skilled photographer knows this and always tries to convey this knowledge to clients, but it also helps when a client knows we do have limits on the software, even if we want to give them a super incredible end-product.

The Loci Photography boudoir shoot is unique in its kind. It’s firstly in a studio with more of a moodier feel, other than an airy and lighter feel as is plenty found online – the studio is hugely forgiving to size and skin, and many things can be gently hidden with lighting. The studio also hosts an in-house styling and accessory range called The Nicolassi Brand, which is beautiful coats, jackets and other additions like hats, gloves and masks to only uplift the quality of its clients’ end-products, making them visually breathtaking. These gramnets create strong shapes, are made of beautiful fabrics and provide a sense of luxury and chicness.
