The acclaimed, and amazing South African magazine DEKAT, holds stunning and exquisite parties throughout the year to celebrate various things. DEKAT turned 30 and held their events all over the country and different ways to suit the area. Johannesburg had a stunning event themed to the modern phenomenon “Steampunk”, and we all dressed on point.
Elzilda Becker, the editor of DEKAT, has made sure DEKAT’s status stays high-up, and still associated with quality.
The event was held at the stunning African Pride Hotel, at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, and we were treated with a various course meal, each so delicately and beautifully prepared. Our host for the evening was also Bain’s Whisky, and we each got to take home a lovely bottle of it.
The evening saw corsets, and goggles, top hats, and gloves and we had an amazing time.
DEKAT has been around for so long, and it’s a feast for the eyes. The articles and photography are of amazing quality and the interviews are exclusively done with such interesting people.
Being a part of this evening was a privilege, as a project of mine, the 16 Iconic Women were featured in the October 2015 issue of Dekat. I wanted to capture the portraits classically, and with a certain mood, as some of the colours and textures had a royal look and feel, and made for contrasty, stunning elements. Loci photography took these Steampunk photos for Dekat, and I love how they turned out.
We had a lesson in whisky brewing, and got to taste the various different types of whisky’s Bains’ produces.
Two people who attended the evening was well-known presenter Jacques du Preez – now a producder with Via TV, and his equally famous wife Yvonne van der Bergh.
Dekat doesn’t do a thing small, and it was filled with stunning decor, and a beautiful venue, of course.
