A family photoshoot at Moreleta Nature Reserve
Just before the start of winter I was able to do this stunning family shoot at the Moreleta Nature Reserve in Moreleta, Pretoria. It had stunning environmental colors at the time, and looked a little different to spring or summer shoots.
What a lovely family to photograph. Families come in all shapes and sizes and it isn’t always easy to get a teenage boy to smile with his mom and stepdad, but this came a little more naturally for them, they seem to really be at ease with each other.
Family shoots are what have been the thing that have been the glue of my business for many years, and I love interacting with the different members when we’re together, it’s always some jokes, some camaraderie, someone giving someone else grief, and usually a few dad jokes inbetween.
I usually have two cameras I shoot with, one has a shorter lens on it, my 16-55mm and the other my 50-140mm lens. For a few years now I’ve been a Fujifilm user, and I’m loyal to my brand. I’ve never loved a camera more than the current XH2 I have, I’m really in love with this machine, and I don’t think my work has been of better quality than currently.
Especially in the studio which is where my strength lies, when I shoot boudoirs, fitness shoots and portfolios for example.
The studio just provides me so much lighting control, and many of my studio shoots are more of a moody, darker style, so this lends itself to being able to have fitting lighting.
The Loci Photography studio and brand is ten years old this year, and it’s a proud moment for me, knowing how many clients I served and how many families have been a part of my photographic journey. With many of them it has been a growing process where I was able to photograph the children from small babies, and then suddenly they are all grown up, or young tweens suddenly have matric dances happening, and I get to be a part of that as they finish their high school career.
I can only be super proud and am extremely grateful for all of this, it has been a great ride and it’s still happening, still growing, and still loving all of the families I get to capture visually.
