BESPOKE WHITE LEATHER FRINGE JACKET BY THE NICOLASSI BRAND
Such an incredibly fun, movable and textured piece, something I didn’t think would even photograph as well as it does. White isn’t a favourite color of mine really, and for another styled shoot in mind that happened in Cape Town, I made a few pieces that had white and cream tones, this jacket being one of them. Its fringe pieces sway lightly when you move and the different levels it was cut at makes for that one hot thing the camera always loves, highlights and shadows hitting at different spots, and something interesting is happening around the shoulder shape which catches your eye and makes you look again.
This jacket is made from vegan/synthetic leather with an ostrich skin pattern, and this block jacket has been made before already, it’s a successful pattern that I keep on duplicating in different and more unique ways. Previously I had used shorter more condensed fringe on a black version, as well as a pink version with some shiny, flowy shorter pink fringe too in a hot vibrant and very attention seeking block jacket, whereas with this one I had the inspiration to try fringe with a bit of a longer string, seeing how that would move in front of the camera.
With my boudoir shoots that mostly happen in my Pretoria studio, I have clients who bring their own pieces of underwear, in different styles, colors and with different shapes and textures, and this incredible woman brought a two piece set with a sporty feel in a crisp white, and it worked so well with this lovely white jacket. It has a strong pointed shoulder which always adds an element of empowerment to my image and it makes any woman who wears the jacket seem brave and with added strength, even if her nature is more shy or quite demurred and not per se loud and extroverted.
The Nicolassi range keeps inspiring me to create these beautiful shapes that make my images stand out from the rest and the fact that it is handmade is special to me. Every piece is handmade by me, and moulded into a piece that will love the camera and its loved back, because the products I would love to present to clients, I would like to be extraordinary, different than the norm, make you look twice or for longer….
